Great day at Kennick yesterday. Fishing dry with a cocky bondhu had plenty of action . The beetles were on the wing, especially when the sun came out, and the trout were devouring any that were blown on to the water. Very reminiscent of New Zealand where the cicada are present in the sunshine. I don't know how long this will last at Kennick but it's certainly worth a look up there with the right conditions. Colin.

Never fished kennick... must get around to it Try to avoid any days that are a tad windy, it's a b*tch to fish in the wind (by wind, I mean anything more than a stiff breeze!). But, it is a lovely little ressy and a nice place to spend a good few hours.

Why's it so tricky in the wind... lack of back cast?

The back cast is a nightmare anyway, in quite a few places, but the wind seems to swirl a bit around the place.

That brings back memories of fishing Kennick with my dad back in the eighties, I remember meticulously copying those with foam and raffia for use as a dry fly only to beaten hands down by the "old man" using a bibio just drifted on the wind subsurface ( I think he must have greased the leader but he never told me). Happy days, I really must try and get up there this season, just the smell of the place turns me into a kid again ( the short water weed in and around Kennick has its own aroma, I'm not just trying to be poetic).

Nice to share your memories. Dad and I fished there 50 years ago when it was season tickets for wild and stocked browns. I remember doing well on a black and peacock spider. Get up there soon . The rhododendrons are in flower making a lovely backdrop to the fishing. Water level is still high and gin clear. Colin

Was up at Kennick today, between 1000-1400 there were fish rising all over the Reservoir. Beetles everywhere and some great dry fly sport. Plenty of good back casting space all round! Rhododendrons are in full colour, Reservoir looking at is best. John
