Ouch... not a great time to lose heating Looking at the forecast I don’t think’ fishing would be very productive

Heating back of yesterday, the rivers dropping, it's forecast dry for a few days. Life is good and hopefully I'll be swinging some flies very soon!

The sun is out, so I may succumb to having a go on the Dart today, but I may resort to a spinner, if that counts ?

I've amazed myself how relaxed about it all I've been. I thought I'd be chomping at the bit but I am a little bit of course but I don't mind waiting a few days. Looks like tomorrow will be the day though. New wading boots, new fly boxes sorted and all I've got to do is book breakfast at the Fox and I'm set.

I’ve got next Thurs/Fri clear in my diary for the first days of the new trout season.... but unless the weather looks ok I won’t bother wasting a day off, I’ve done that before on cloudy / drizzly / cold days and it never really feels like the new season... So this year my first day on the river is going to be one with sun... don’t mind it being chilly, but I do want the sun out so it at least feels like spring and the new season has arrived. So potentially not until a week or so into the season.... Well... that’s the plan, but i’ll probably succumb to temptation / excitement of the new season and end up fishing dry fly in blizzard

It looks unsettled overnight so we'll see what happens although I'll be keeping fingers crossed.
I did put my rod holders back on the truck for the first time since Sep, these are all little things that make the season feel a little more real.

Today was just about perfect and felt great to be back on the Taw again. We started the day with a fry up at the Fox and then headed downstream a little way. No fish but think tomorrow might be fun. I think the dog was as pleased as me to be back on the Taw again too!

Fantastic day to be out Pete... Monty looks very pleased with himself I was down on the Lower Tamar for a meeting this morning, walking along the estuary looking at some salt marsh and adjoining land.... one of my better meetings Heading home mid-afternoon I came back straight over the Moor, through two bridges, over the Cherry Brook and East Dart at Postbridge.... if only it had been next Thursday I’d have stopped and gone fishing....

Why is it places look at their very best when you can't fish them!
Monts is doing really well and despite the pic stays out of the river but loves being there. I can't believe he'll be 2 next month.

Just watching the height gauges for the river to drop back for salmon in the short term and whether we'll be fishable for trout on Thursday or not.

Was wondering what your thought are on water temperature? My last outing to the Dart, the temp was 3 deg. Is that too cold for Salmon - I'm wondering if they would be able to run up the fish ladder at TWP in such cold water ?

I heard somewhere that fish won't enter the river if it's colder than the sea. Not sure about going up a fish ladder though. Nice rise on the dart over the weekend.

The magic figure for most falls seems to be around 47 F if I recall. Hoping to get out on Saturday for a cast.

Typical... today beautiful, sunny, early season day 12C... salmon open but trout not... but doesn’t really matter as rivers still blown Thurs / Fri looks as though enough rain may arrive to push the rivers back up... just as trout opens Sun.... rivers may have dropped back a bit but 3C forecast.... hardly spring like

Well, the Umberleigh gauge has dropped below 1m for the first time in a while and perhaps there might be a tiny window of fishing coming. My only issue now is getting there!
