I ventured out for the first time this year, absolutely freezing but while waiting for it to get dark a fish moved. Within ten minutes of fishing i hooked into something very big, it started shaking its head, splashed on the surface and was gone. Not a happy bunny, i cast to the same place, five minutes later same thing different fish, a really solid take on the heavy tube fly then a single jump (fish of about 2lb) and it was away. That was it for the night, packed up at ten as it went dead. But still that's very encouraging for this time of year on the Upper Teign. Cheers Richard

The brown trout? They were going nuts last night, jumping on the tube and causing problems. However, the daytime BT has been pretty good and they are starting to look up instead of down! The occasional grannom and Large dark olive last week but no major hatch whilst i was fishing. Cheers Richard

Went again last night, 1lb 13oz bar of silver was the result. All the action in the first 1/2 an hour then it went dead. Cheers Richard

Hi Rob, Did you manage to get out? This rain might stir things up a bit, the Teign is at summers level at the moment but there are some BIG sea trout in. Cheers Richard

Richard, I did make it out, but to be honest I'm having a lean time of it so far. Having just got my sea trout ticket on the Dart as well, I must confess to spending more time there at present than on the Teign. I had a very enjoyable night at Upperton in early May. I'm sure the very bright full moon put paid to my chances but it illuminated the water such that I could see at first hand the quality of the fish in the river.

This season's duck broken. ;D
A fine 2lb 8ox sea trout last night. Cartwheels, the works.

The river came up about 10 inches last night but was clearing and dropping nicely by late afternoon. It really neaded the rain, the sea trout had become a bit dour of late but this should get things moving again, there are no shortage this year and some really big fish are in the system. Cheers Richard

:)Hi Guys I have just joined this forum. I fish the Teign and am a member of both associations this being my first season in the LTFA. There have certainly been some good runs from the 2nd week in April but I didn't do much good until June and that wasnt down to lack of trying. It has certainly gone off over the last few days but a bit more rain and warm nights and I would be fairly confident. I did get a fish on my last trip but it was only 10.5 inches. It seems a bit early for fish this size, but seems to indicate that they are trickling in fairly regularly. Tight lines everyone Luap

It was good last night (Friday), perhaps not surprising with the temperature 5C up on the previous night. I had 2 but missed other chances including one coming off and other solid takes. It's going to rain now though but should be good again when the river settles and there might even be the odd grilse around. Luap

Hi Luap, welcome. I'd be interested to know about the LTFA, doesn't seem as well publicised as the Upper, which I'm a member of as well. I'm not sure I've ever even seen contact details.
Had a few hours on the river around Clifford Bridge and Upperton this morning from first light. I was suprised how quickly the river has fallen and cleared. Nothing doing. Another dry day or two and the sea trout should be back in action. Lets hope so anyway.

Hi Rob I went out last night, just peal interested in taking wake lures, nothing else showing apart from an otter which killed things off, although sometimes they can send things the other way! Hi Luap, welcome. I'd be interested to know about the LTFA, doesn't seem as well publicised as the Upper, which I'm a member of as well. I'm not sure I've ever even seen contact details. The LTFA has a waiting list and it took me 7 years to get in. It costs £10 to get on the waiting list. I sent a message to Rob giving him contact details. If anyone else wants this info please send me a private message. The LTFA waters are fishing very well. Not sure if they are better than the UTFA waters or if this season is special, perhaps a bit of both. Tigt lines to all Luap

Sea trout have arrived 2010! However not for me, i hooked into what a thought was a Sea Trout last night, only to find it was a 2lb Rainbow! Now that is a first for me on the Teign. However my mate got his season off to a sensational start with his best ever fish, 6lb 1oz! Cheers Richard

I was somewhat concerned today to find a YouTube film of someone kayaking down Drogo salmon pass! see It has been a slow start on the lower Teign this season, for me at least. I have been out on a number of occasions for short sessions just after dark and also during the day, though I don’t think the river has been up enough to expect much in daylight. I didn’t see a sea trout until 26th April but the odd fish is showing regularly now and last week I hooked a good one for about 10secs. It jumped and was off and looked to be 3 or 4 pounds at least. I think that was my first proper sea trout take of the season. Have a good season everyone. Luap
