Tamar is only just showing a significant lift at Launceston - looks good for the weekend. Tavy is hooning through and may give it a go tomorrow... work is a bit of a complication 😳

Taw hasn't really lifted much but hasn't stopped me having a go.
I've decided to just fish old school spey flies to see if I can catch a fish on one.
A friend had a couple from the Tamar last week though.

Looking at the river gauge stations across Devon the heavy rain must have been very localised... Otter small rise, Axe nothing, Dart large rise, Bovey practically nothing... Tone in Somerset doesn’t appear to have moved

Heard of one fish from the middle Taw on fri before the lift.
Here's hoping for more good news.

Fished the lower dart last night. No fish seen but lost two peal and had a few pulls. River still fining down nicely.

Sounds like someone had an amazing time on the Mole with 7 fish one of them 20lb and another 24lb.
I was back on netting duties yesterday and scooped an 8lber for my wife. Really pleased!

Wow... that’s impressive. Emma’s fish was a cracker... lovely markings. Fishing the Otter the other night I had a decent sized salmon launch out the water 10 yards in-front of me, exactly the same spot as the night before. I didn’t buy a salmon licence this year, but after 3 years in Ottery club I’m starting to get a feel where they lie up, may have to have a dabble next season

7 fish up to 24lb what a legend! That is wonderful to hear. Pete that must be a lovely feeling to net a salmon for your wife. I fished the dart again last night. Had a few pulls and a few fish showing. Changed over to a surface lure and 4th cast hooked a lovely 5 1/2lb sea trout that was intent on running up and out of the pool or sitting on the bottom shaking it's head, my biggest by a long way. When i stopped shaking, caught another two peal afterwards. After having lost the last 14 sea trout i have hooked on normal flies, i was amazed that all 3 on the surface lure stayed on. All fish appeared healthy and no sign of disease which was good to see.

Learning a river no matter salmon, sea trout or trout is one of the things I think I love about fly fishing. It sounds like you're really getting the Otter dialled in Boisker!
Many congrats Dude, a nice fish and even better to follow it up with a couple more, excellent. I still shake with excitement and did when Emma caught her fish as did she.
I love netting fish for her. She has worked hard this year for little reward as it has been so tough but has just kept plugging away and got the reward she has deserved.

It’s been a painful season Pete, personal crap stopping me getting out, low water, followed by far too busy at work to take days off and busy on the weekends... I fished a sh*t load through May & June, but can’t remember a season where I have fished so infrequently thereafter.... I just hope September is a bit more productive

Ditto boisker. I’m having my worst season on record. If it were not for the crackers at Fernworthy I would have called it a day. Going to give the Teign a serious examination for the next 7 days. God I miss Herefordshire and Goucestershire.

Well done Dude, great to hear of a first Dart salmon on fly. I am sitting at work sneaking a peek at the Gaugemap every hour or so. Good rise of water on the upper Dart overnight, bodes well for the next couple of days...I only need to persuade the team (and the lady wife) that they can do without me for the next few days!! Keep that fly in the water!

I managed to get out just as the river was rising and got lucky with a grilse before all clarity disappeared.

Nice one Pete. I love that period when the river starts to rise and salmon wake up and do weird things like take a fly. Hopefully going out on the dart this afternoon in the wind and high water.
