A quick question, i'm thinking of taking a wander up the East Dart from Postbridge Post Office towards the waterfalls - will I get away with thigh waders or should I take my chesties?
cheers

The most important thing is to have footwear which will give you decent grip because it's very slippy. In my experience that means felt soles, which is why I use chesties with stocking feet and separate wading boots. Depth is less of a problem, especially on the upper East Dart. I also use a wading staff for extra stability. I hope you enjoy it up there, and look forward to reading your report.

I agree with Johnie although there is a fair amount of river especially higher up that you can fish easily from the bank. The recent rains have livened things up.

Thanks gents, I'm going to use an old pair of chesties (that will roll down to waist height) and proper studded wading boots.

If the weather is warm then wet wading is a great option that far up the river. Two years ago I wet waded, neoprene ‘socks’ with my usual wading boots and long, light polyester trousers that dry in minutes. Great way to fish when the weather is right, you don’t need to wade deep very often high up in the East Dart (if at all) and on a hot day going up to your knees is nice and cooling... way, way easier than wearing any sort of wader.

Good point, i'll be going tomorrow I think so may assess the temperature when I get there. I was planning on wearing thin cotton walking trousers under my goretex waders anyway. Cheers
