Hi Everyone
At the moment as we are not on the rivers fishing it is important that we keep an eye on the rivers on our daily exercise. Over the past 3 or 4 weeks there has been hundreds of tons of slurry spread on the fields in Devon yet to be ploughed in. At the moment the ground is rock hard and if over the next few days we get the forecasted heavy rain some of this is bound to end up in the rivers. Please keep an eye on every ditch, brook, stream and river for anything out of the ordinary and if you suspect anything is wrong please ring the Environmental Agency on 0800807060 that is what this number is for.
Hope everyone is keeping well and that it will not be too long before we can be fishing again.
Regards
David

I see what you mean, but thanks for posting. Gives a very good idea what we are up against, and the reasons why.

On the plus side yeoman it does show that change is easily achievable.... but it requires a focus and enforcement that would require a serious upscaling in EA capacity. They were pushed into it due to being challenged in court for failing in their responsibilities to the SAC... unfortunately this isn’t an option for 99% of rivers...

" unfortunately this isn’t an option for 99% of rivers."..hence my original post, from what I have seen on the Creedy/Yeo catchment this past winter I fear for the future of all our rivers. The pictures in the Axe report could have been taken anywhere around Mid Devon, the general public don't see it ,the EA don't have the staff or the funding to monitor the situation, no one seems to implement agriculture regulations ie spraying/spreading near a watercourse. So it's up to us to report everything we see that's not right.
