I went to the River Taw today for a couple of hours. Didn't have enough time to go down to the Exe but fancied a fish. I was the only one fishing and the beat looked as if it had not been visited much all season. The riverside growth was high and lush with very few tracks from other anglers. Loads of fish around from fry to decent size ones. The brownies that I caught were in great condition and really good looking fish. The beat has odd salmon and sea trout but not today.
This is the beat that I taught myself to fish on, caught my first brownie here. You can fish most of the beat in wellies and is a superb place to teach others. Now for the surprise - the beat belongs to Barnstaple Angling Club and costs about £30 per year !!! I keep my tickets just for days like today when I fancy a go and don"t have much time. In fact I haven"t been here for 3 years but well worth the cost for the day when you just have to wet a line
Don't tell everyone but if you want a river to fish in North Devon then I reckon this is great value ;D ;D ;D
