A friend went last week whilst I was acting like an aging hippy at Glastonbury and watching Neil Young. Managed two good salmon - one about 10lb and the other about 6lb.
Tried again over the weekend and the river appeared to be empty

Hi Good to hear that Salmon are still around in this beautiful river. Am hoping to fish the Lyn in August while we are on our holidays, we are staying at a campsite near Badgeworthy Water so any info / tips would be much appreciated. Matt

You will be above any serious salmon fishing up the Badgeworthy but there are plenty of trout. Tickets for the Badgeworthy either from Cloud Farm or the Gift shop in Malmsmead (I'm not sure if these two tickets actually cover the same bit of water, I always get mine from the gift shop). The usual small dries and nymphs will cover the trout. If you get a spate it is always worth giving the old wet flies a cast too. The Lyn is the only river were I've caught three fish on one cast on wets!
On the road down to Rockford you pass Southern Wood Farm - they used to let the odd day ticket and it might be worth asking.

Three nights camping at Cloud Farm and after enquiring at the gift shop in Malmsmead I went fishing in Badgeworthy Water, walking up river from the camp site I lost three flies in almost as many casts and was getting despondent so moved up to where the river was wider but shallower just below some sort of gate across the river for a few last casts before dusk. A few small splashes from rises every now and then so cast my Klinkhamer as near to the last one I could which was near to an overhanging bush and saw a small splash followed by my leader moving upstream. I was as surprised as I think the fish was, it leaped about and thrashed around until I brought it to hand - approx 9-10" and had a silvery almost purple colour along the sides. Could it actually be a Sea Trout? My first?

Could be,but sounds a bit on the small side, even for peal.

I wouldn't rule it out on size. Some of the first sea trout I ever caught were peal of 9 or 10 inches long, from Overflow Pool at the bottom of the Lyn.
"...so moved up to where the river was wider but shallower just below some sort of gate across the river for a few last casts before dusk."
That shallow pool by the gate is one of my favourites up on that stretch of the Badgeworthy, there always seems to be a better fish in it.
