Hi my name is Barry and I now live in East Budleigh Devon. Now 69 unfortunately and have fished for 65 of them-been involved with all sorts of fishing but my obsession for the last twenty has been fly fishing.Any fly fishing from deceivers for bass to midges for trout.I lived in Somerset until 3 yrs ago so most of my trouting has been on reservoirs all over the South West.Really enjoy trying variety of tactics for my fishing and although my river trouting is very rusty I`m hoping to get into some fish on the Otter.(any hints much appreciated ) Have not caught a sea trout since I was 17 (they were thick in the rivers then)so a real ambition would be to get one now. Regards

Hi Chessie and welcome to the forum!
Although we're called Devon Rivers Forum feel free to post away about your stillwater adventures we'd love to hear about them.
Billyfish knows the Otter well so hopefully he'll see your post and might be able to help.
Good luck with the sea trout too and don't forget your camera for when you catch it, we'd love to see the pics.
Pete

Hi my name's Gary I'm based in Whitstable in Kent. I've been fishing for longer than I care to remember, for the last 10 years or so I've been concentrating on SWFF for bass with occasional forays onto my local river and still waters. Last year's bassing was the worst I can remember so I decided to do a lot more river fishing this year a friend Starsky told me this forum is a great resource and after a quick look round it certainly looks that way.
I'm aiming to get down to Devon at least a couple of times this season.
Gary

Hi All, Just found the board this evening. I live within a short walk of the free stretch of the Otter and will be whisking the air into a frenzy as soon as I can! Much as I enjoy flyfishing, I'm interested in exploring the world of micro lures for trout. Anybody been trying small plastics or drop-shotting locally?

Hi Alistair426. Look on Facebook and YouTube for Matt Pickup or Matthew Pickup (not sure which it is off the top of my head). He has great videos and is out all the time fishing with micro lures for trout, pike, chub. He's a helpful chap too so can help you out.

Hi Jezney,
Thanks for that. I've seen one of his videos in which he catches just about everything that swims using a very small bumble bee lure. I'll have to see if I can get hold of one.

Hello everyone.I am happy to have stumbled across this forum. My fishing is of what is sometimes called the "traditional" approach.I like to use split cane rods and reels and tackle to match.I keep to the old close season for coarse fish so always look forward to the game fishing season which starts as the other closes.I have fished rivers for wild brown trout for quite a long time and like early season rainbow trout fishing on stillwaters too as they fight hard and of course are good to eat!.I have not taken a brown for over twenty years i might add. This season i have bought a salmon and sea trout licence and am very much looking forward to trying out some new (old)rods and reels on this new venture. If you see an old duffer on the bank using old tackle in the wrong way and making a fool of himself please be patient.I enjoy being out on the bank with a favourite rod having a play as i do catching fish.Luckily sometimes i do also land a fish!.
