Doh! Posting for two days and just spotted this thread... rewind and reintroduce... Been fishing for donkeys, flyfishing for less (about 15 yrs). I have moved around a fair bit whilst growing up and in adulthood, but have spent the majority of my time in Kent. Studied at Plymouth for four years a couple of decades back and fell in love with the moors (Plymuff was a bit too much of a concrete jungle for a farm boy from Kent / Zimbabwe). Left the West mid 90's and since then have been back for numerous holidays. Now move between Kent and West Devon (most of my work is in the east of the UK) so it's a bit of a toss up as to where I am. Most of my time is Westward in the winter, and during the grilse and peal runs conveniently! Turns out I know a few on the board - Sparks is a fellow Saltw*ter flyfishing bum from Kent, and know Starsky and Toby from Funky fairly well too... they'll all vouch that I'm an utter b@$t1d no doubt!
So there you have it. Fishing background - SWFF (with varying degrees of success - or lack thereof), Reservoirs, chalkstreams (cheap ones!), and a fair bit of freestone. Mostly on Duchy waters and passport beats for the past three or four years. Some small success with peal, dismal failures thus far with salmon.
Oh - if any of you know Mike Heritage or Mike Marshall I've also been around the BFCC a bit, though that has taken a back seat over the past couple of years due to job change. Guess I have no excuse to miss the Cullompton event next year.

Hello,
I'm Jon, 49 and I restarted fly fishing about 4 or 5 years ago. I'm based in Dorset and have been fishing on a chalk stream syndicate for trout and in Scotland for salmon until now. I have fished a few times on the Teign and Duchy and call me a heretic but prefer it to fishing the chalk streams. So, this season I have ditched the syndicate and joined UFTA. I can't wait until my first visit at the beginning of April. Even if (most likely) there are no salmon in the system it will be great to get walk the river and get a line on the water. Even if I don't catch a salmon the whole season I won't care, because I will be outside in fabulous surroundings and all will be right with the world!

Welcome jonnie... Looks like were heading in opposite directions this season.... Over the last few years I've spent a fair amount of time on the East / West Dart and the upper Teign, some great water, but this year I'm planning to focus a bit more on the chalk.... Plus the Axe as I've just joined Taunton Fly Fishing Club.... Good to have a change

Hi Bolsker, thanks for the welcome. I've been fishing the Frome and the Piddle and they are, indeed, great water and hold some good trout. As you say, it is good to have a change though! On the Dart Hexworthy and Believer are favourite spots of mine. Have a great season!

Do make the most of the Dart Jonnie, and a big welcome to the board. Top tip for that area of the W.Dart is to walk... most don't. Walk a little further than most OR concentrate on the really messy and overgrown bits. Some very pleasant surprises not far from the bridge at Hexworthy to be caught if you get amongst the tangles with a careful cast (but be prepared to lose flies!!!!). Tight lines
