Is it just my imagination? I've been looking at the Thorveton gauge for a mere 5 years. My own 'ready reckoner, of flat low conditions was about 4 on the gauge. Las tsummer, and again this spring, 3 or slighty under seems the norm. This seems to be confirmed by wading depths on the Yeo and Creedy where everything seems shallower than a few years back.
Have water level actaully fallen? Is this just unusual low water conditions? Is abstraction up?
Can some of the experts who know the water well and have a more scientific approach than I, tell me if we have lost about ten centimetres of water or not?

Paul I can't speak for the Yeo and Creedy but I'm fairly certain the Thorveton loss of height is due to some dredging done below the gauge weir. The Farsons cameras at Exebridge and Dulverton still read as they used to (almost always too low for my liking!). The EA river levels page suggests that the Exe at Thorveton is not below the expected range - it's just on dead low as usual www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/riverlevels/120500.aspxIt is also showing a very slight rise on the Yeo and Creedy you lucky thing Andy

Andy,
Thanks- the website is a mine of info and much better than just looking at the Thorveton gauge.
