A tad annoying, went sea trout fishing last Thursday, started early as the river still had a peaty tinge to it, first cast and immediate take, i knew it was a salmon, ripped off line and i couldn't stop it, result was fly pulled out and reeled in fly line plus 50 yards of backing. So full of self pity i did a quick false cast back in and immediately noticed my fly line was heading upstream, lifted into it a salmon of about 10lb that came to the surface, only this time it was game over very quickly, line just snapped as it crashed into the opposite bank. Then not a single take from a sea trout, went home with just memories, but i will settle for that. Must try harder this week! Cheers Richard

29th Feb 2012. Fished the lower teign, between Teign Bridges and Preston Bridge, with a friend from the LTFA. Water level was really low, like its' summer level and I guess I found that a little disconcerting. Maybe the water authority is holding the water back at the resevoir end??? My friend landed a kelt of 31" in length, which was returned unharmed. Unfortunately his camera failed to work, which is a shame 'cos it was his first ever salmon : ( I blanked, with only the occassional tweek from small brown trout. Lovely day though : ) Soooo good to be out on the river again.

I understand from a reliable source that the lower river has fished well for salmon during the recent high water. No news that any have made it to the upper river though.
