Just did a recce at 8pm. Plenty of fly life. Water looking no clearer than Exeter Quay. No fish rising. Are there really wbt in here? I've week more action on the Wey canal in my youth.

A few,and some good ones at that, although I prefer it for the chub later in the year. Never see many rising there. Probably won't fish it this year as it seems to have gone up a token (i.e £2.50),along with some of the other beats, which for me makes it poor value. There's a reasonable length of water there, but not many good pools. The scheme in general seems to be getting a bit expensive, especially as some beats are only a few hundred yards long.

Well, I finally decided to give it a go this afternoon. Waw as disappointing as I thought it might be. Long heat but access very poor due to high banks and rampant nettles and trees. Saw only one fish rise twice. Managed to bag him on a hawthorn, a nice 9" brownie. Nymphs did not work, dries not much better. It's a wonder fish can see your flies at all in this water. At least I saw a kingfisher.
