Stopped by Fingle Bridge on my way back to Bristol yesterday. Plenty of water in the river (unsurprisingly) but nice and clear. Very bright sun all day but some good shade from the trees. Not too many people swimming dogs in the pools either. I've only fished the Teign once this year because of the appalling weather and the river was looking beautiful.
Worked my way upstream from the bridge and had a 6-incher on a GRHE nymph. There were a few risers so I snipped off the nymph and had a take on a black Klinkhamer. I've still never managed to catch on an imitative dry (Klinks aren't imitative, are they?) so I stuck on a small winged black gnat and, after thrashing away for a while, finally got a good solid take ;D but it got off before I could bring it to hand. I was creeping upstream, close to the bank when a big fish (must have been well over 2 pounds) shot out from under my feet, a nice reminder of just how close you can get before spooking them.
Finished with a sharpener at The Angler's Rest before heading home. Really nice afternoon. If we can get some more weather like yesterday, the season will not be lost.
