I am guilty of looking and not posting on Pete's forum, but when a question comes up about the Teign i feel i should help out as i am down there every week. It is very tough at the moment due to low water, in fact in over 25 years of fishing it i have never seen it so low, but hopefully by next weekend we might have had some rain for your trip. If you fish the deeper oxygenated runs and pots you will find the fish, they are still coming to the dry very well and the usual popular dries work well, try a trailing nymph in the deeper area's and you will connect, if you can cast into the tight area's under the tree's you should do well, just make sure the salmon parr go back unharmed as they are so quick to snaffle your fly before the trout do! Cheers Richard

I agree with fishing duo (dry fly with a nymph underneath). Try a klinkhammer or a bushy sedge fly on the top dropper then a black tungsten bead nymph usually works best. Stick to the fast water and make short casts upstream at 45 degrees not straight up as you will cast the line over the fish and spook them.I fish with a 9ft6 rod and don't really cast any longer than my rod length so you can lift and keep all your leader off the water for perfect presentation. I would walk downstream of fingle bridge for as far as you like and fish back up. Hope that helps a bit.

Looks like the chance of rain, if the river rises it will be pretty dirty after such a long dry spell but will clear quickly, when it is still 'peaty' it can fish well for brown trout, or dig a little deeper in your pockets, buy a salmon/sea trout permit and have a try for them., keep your options open, there are a lot of migratory fish held up. This might help www.farsondigitalwatercams.com/live-webcams/south/Upper-Teign/Drewsteignton/Cheers Richard

Depending on the weather i like May and June, the fish are really fresh and its just prior to the run of small peal, some big fish have come out this year, even with the low water they still push through, fish up to 28'' have been caught. Next time you come down get in touch and i will give you some advice on places and tactics. Cheers Richard
