I heard that Exe is due to be dredged soon to help water flow quicker through the Exeter flood defences. Anyone know anything about this?

The work on the Exe is in the Exeter area although there may be other things going on upstream to protect the railway. My understanding is that the following has been planned: a. Lowering of side weir upstream of Trews right bank. Will lower the river level at high flows and divert more into the flood relief channel. b. Dig out FRC to increase capacity c. Build in small weir with fish pass for 'sweetening flow' into the FRC to maintain water quality and to give smolts and larger fish an exit. (This will reduce the flow between Trews and Salmon Pool by 2.5%). d. Build new fish pass on main Trews Weir adjacent to right bank. e. On the left side, keep the sluice dropped permanently and increase its height. Will decrease the flow down the left side of the pool. f. Work in the Salmon Pool area. I visualize that the FRC will be a permanent water course. g. Some work on the river channel near St Davids station is also possible.
