It was decided that we would go to Forde Abbey Plant Sale last saturday morning, and we came back with a car full of plants for the new border.
As I don't do much gardening I was despatched to the River Exe during the afternoon. The river was a little higher and was travelling faster than I expected. The wind blustery and straight down the river.
The first few knocks turned out to be sticks, twigs and large leaves and the grayling turned out to be more than a little elusive.
Moving around the spots that I have caught grayling in the past proved to be a mistake. Just more leaves, twigs and an odd brownie. Then it was decided for me that I would be better fishing with one fly - the other was left in a tree.
A quite dribble down a fast run and working the fly up the inside of it in the quite water produced a small grayling - the first of this years grayling season.
