As much as I wish it were myself....a friend of mine here in Canada is planning a vacation in Ireland this May, and is planning on bringing his fly fishing gear. The amount of fly fishing information that is available online is overwhelming, hence my question to my friends in Devon.....does anyone have any first hand experience, advice, or recommendations? All I know, is he plans on traveling "all over", beginning in Dublin, and is interested in Browns and Atlantic's.
Cheers, Ray.

Hi Ray, I have fished in a few places. I flew into Dublin and headed for Trim and fished the Boyne and some of the tribs in the area. It was good fun and had plenty of free rising brown trout. There is a lot of info on the link below of the area and beyond. www.fishinginireland.info/salmon/east/boyne.htmGoing back in time a little bit I fished in Clonmel at Andrew Ryans place. We stayed at the B & B he has but didn't use the guiding service although he is a great guide. It isn't the cheapest but he has some great fishing. My greatest memories are of catching trout on the Suir at 11pm with fish rising to caddis and fishing his stretch of the Tar a great stream. www.flyfishingireland.comPete

Thanks Pete! That's super, I must try to get there myself one of these days. We are officially in a 'deep freeze' now so I'm going to focus on completing a 2nd tip for the Cane rod.

Don't forget the SWFFING fishing in Ireland as well. I've always wanted to go as on your doorstep you have salt water fishing along with the rivers and lochs.

In years gone by I fished on the Blackwater and the Moy - had my first atlantic salmon there, a nice 14lb fish. I'll be returning to fish the Finn this June in County Donegal. Apparently has a huge run of salmon, some 60,000 a year! I'll be staying at this place: www.glenmore-rivers.com/home.html hopefully I'll have some luck!

Thanks for the extra feedback Starsky and Sevilla, much appreciated.....I shall pass that onto my friend.
Pete, the new rod tip is coming along nicely, final planning is complete and ready to glue. Won't be ready for this weekends opener but that's ok, as I have repaired the broken one and will see how it performs shortly.
Things have thawed out and local waters are all open and free of ice. Temps are in the mid teens. I'll be headed off to Algonquin in May with my son for our annual Brook trout weekend. The lakes up there are still ice covered, and the Park is not issuing backcountry permits until after the predicted "ice out" on approx May 8th.
Hope you all had a good start to your season! Play Safe.
