Nice little session on the lower Abbey beat, fished for 1.5 hrs and had 8 trout to CDC emerger; a couple around the 11" mark and a couple more at 9"...

Good catch ,well done. Any sea trout movements ? Colin. Had three sea trout smolts on the Otter the other evening. Very encouraging if the "Black Death " doesn't get them before they reach the ocean.

Hey Pete... I must try and find time to call in on the Tone, to much water to get to know this year
And cheers Colin, I had a decent sea trout out about 2 weeks ago but I haven't seen anything else...

Still not had time to head to the Tone, but did pop out this afternoon for a couple of hours to the lower abbey beat. Nearly didn't bother going, so very glad I did as it was fishing great. Had about 15 fish over a couple of hours, a few of a decent size for the Axe and nearly all over 9". The highlight was spotting a 12" trout coming up from the depths of a pool to lazily sip flies from the surface, I watched him keep appearing out of the gloom and disappearing again for about 10 mins then put a little emerger over him; obligingly up he keep and slowly finned past the fly then gently turned and took it. Hardly a record breaking fish but a beautiful take that doesn't happen that often, so many dry takes are fast, this was like the world went into slow motion.. made me a happy chap...

Got to the Tone finally on Friday.
Crocked shoulder, so neede to go somewhere fairly open where I could cast lefthanded!
Seven fish in a couple of hours, one brown and six out of season grayling to 12", all on ablqck klink. They were rocketing up from deep, notlazily sipping!
Will return shortly.

Had a couple of hours on the Axe, Upstream of Forde Abbey.... Had 7 in the first hour then nothing, funny month- you'd expect the evenings to be best, but some of my most productive session have been between 2 and 4 pm, I guess the warm weather but overcast conditions are helping. All fish in the 8-10" mark, all on a DHE; missed one take that was larger, thought I'd put him down so moved on up through the pool and spooked him properly.
