Well done ,they are all beautiful wild fish in the Sid. Every year we net below the weir and move them above to continue their spawning. Unfortunately they are being removed by people that can't see the bigger picture. I don't think it is a coincidence that " local brown trout" were for sale at the market fish stall in Sidmouth. I am ok with the " one for the pot" idea but I think some of our anglers are taking the p.... Colin

Colin Colin , I haven't killed a Wild Brownie since I was 16, I don't particularly enjoy catching stocked fish , The River Sid could possibly be one of the few rivers left with an indigenous species. To kill one is sacralidge, 90% don't make it to be 1 year old there are enough predators like the King Fisher and the Heron who take there share because they need to, to survive.

I believe that all the anglers who fish the Sid using fly put their fish back. The ones who are keeping the fish are elderly "kids" that should know better . I have fished the Sid for over 55 years as it is about 50 yards from my front door. The fishing over the last few years is as good as it has ever been and I am convinced that it is because of our netting strategy. However the will to carry on this practice could falter on the backs of a greedy minority. Colin.

I have just been told that the fish " rescue " boys netted a 10lb hen salmon from the weir last Sunday and put it above to swim upstream. I'm told it made a terrific bow wave as it continued the journey. Colin.

you guys have probably seen these two in the river Sid digging a red and covering it , so here's the Video taken on 25 Nov 2015. Second glance could be a pair of sea trout but the Sid trout trying to muscle in on the hen and the little ones trying to eat her eggs, she was still there this morning guarding the Redd Posted it on YouTube here's the link

Great piece of film. Water looks nice and it's great to see a healthy river.

Great film mate, I guess it's below the weir.

Lovely bit of film. Two nice size sea trout . We don't get to see the spawning activity so much as we used to as we put as many fish as we can over the weir. Just below the road bridge is a great spot to view the spawning with the rail to lean on as well as a camera steady. In the past , pre netting days, I used to see some very large fish spawning below the weir lower down below the ford. Colin

May have to pop into Sidmouth tomorrow, I'll have a look if I make it... Fantastic to watch; I got distracted for about an hour on the River Bray last season watching lamprey over their redds

Mat, give me a ring first . The rain is really coming down heavy and the river might be up to high and dirty to see any spawning. However there may be some showing at the weir. I'll have a look on my way to work and see what's happening. Cheers, Colin.'

Walking up from the ford it's just before the bridge, there are two Reds , the one I filmed and there is another under the overhanging bush a few meters above the one filmed . Colin will know the spot

Salaam, Casbah,
'ahlaan bik! or, if you prefer
أهلا بك Colin,
Although a bit of a trog from me, I- well past my sell by date- often come to Sidmouth as a walk along the front, looking around at the rest of the crowd, make me feel much younger than I am!
Thus, if a pair of unsteady hands in a doddery set of waders is of any assistance, do let me know!
Cheers, Paul

Loads of fish showing below the road bridge just now. Two good size hen sea trout ,one starting to cut a redd with some nice size cocks fighting for position. After lunch I will try to capture the drama on camera. Colin.
