Took the family for a walk in Totnes today and we stopped off at TWP to see if we cold spot any fish. Amazingly we saw a Seal , which then managed to catch a Sea Trout right in front of us !
Was wondering if Seals often frequent TWP ?

Good news. Anyone know how many the Dart nets have been getting (or declaring) in recent years?

According to Salmonid and fisheries statistics for England and Wales 2014, there were 54 salmon declared totalling 200 kilo- ie 4kilo per fish - in 2014, compared with 11 in 2013! This compares, with 14 declared rod caught salmon, all but one released
In addition, there were 228 sea trout averaging 1kg netted. Rod cuaght were 292 of which 183 released.
Wonder what was paid?

Thanks for digging these figures up - even if they do make depressing reading! Still an extra 50 or so salmon up the Dart can't do any harm. It is staggering to think that when I started fishing the Exe in 1992 it was capable of 1000+ fish to the rods alone. At the time it was the fifth best river in England and Wales in terms of rod catches. It was actually equal forth with the Eden but they had a higher average weight so went above the Exe in the tables. I just hope these things go in cycles and the good old days return.

Hi Andy,
The numbers are grim.
You will know better than i, but there is a lot of anecdotal evidence to suggest there is a lot of unofficial fishing (and taking ) of salmon on the Exe- but i guess that was also so in better times in the past!
