This is due to be lifted any day now, there was a seal in the recently with a salmon in its mouth, not known if it was a kelt or not.

Although the byelaw has been lifted now there are a number of conditions, one of which No Flying C,s to be used. Check out conditions before you go out. it seems the dart is getting penalised yet again

Riding steam trains on Sunday and walked over to TWP. Saw this sad fish with UDN polling about in the shallows below the weird. Not a good sign. Saw the new hydro screws working but didn't see any fish screen at the bottom end. Is this right?

Saw the new hydro screws working but didn't see any fish screen at the bottom end. Is this right? Sad to see the sick fish again. From what I've seen and read fish can go down through the screw type turbines with no ill effects. You would hope the upstream end would have screens just to be on the safe side but I doubt anything will try to run up the screw but in theory a really determined/daft adult fish might be able to do it. No idea what I was whittering on about there... a fish could try but clearly there is no way of it succeeding! It is always worth looking at these hydro schemes and fish farm weirs though, there are more than a few that don't have the legally required screening. I can think of one fish farm leat on the Exe that was never screened where the downstream migrating smolts would get stuck in the fish farm overnight and be released every morning... Andy
