Anyone know how the Axe finished up this Season? I only made it down once. I'm thinking I probably found my limit in terms of enthusiasm v blanks. Jon I was assured last week by a long time local that the Abbey Gate £5 day ticket beat has NOT been sold, but the fishing has been very disappointing this year. He said that he's seen many more people spinning down there than normal.

That’s the beauty of club waters for me... although I’d love to have one single licence that entitled you to fish anywhere in England, in reality it would be a nightmare, too many people.... doing what they like with no thought to the effect.
The Abbey Gate Water gets pretty thrashed, when I first started fly fishing 8 or so yrs ago... i’d head over for a few hours, as much to practice technique in flowing water as any expectation that it was great for brown trout... if I went after work, as I packed up near dusk and headed home quite often there’d be two or three cars arriving for sea trout... any method goes, all the pools get hammered and I’d guess the catch and release rate is pretty non-existing.

I have some very fond memories of a few really good seasons there but the last couple of years (albeit with less effort on my part) have just tipped the balance.
