I was heading up to north to fish with some friends when my pal TobyM made a quick phone call and got us on the Eden for a couple of hours. I was really thankful he did!

Very nice Pete... I'm useless at estimating that sort of size fish... What ball park weight would it be? I've never fished the Eden, definitely on the hit list... May put my hand in my pocket one year and bid on one of the charity auctions and fish with 'NorthCountry Angler'.... Some money to a rivers or wild trout trust charity and a days fishing seems like a nice way to get a days fishing....

We thought around 13lb but I am a guide so you should never believe a word I say when it comes to size of fish!
It was a fun river to fish and we had some really nice trout on dries too. I'll write it up in the next edition of ESF.
The auctions are a great way to see and fish water you might never get a chance to fish or even think about fishing. I have a day coming up on a stream in Wales from the WTT auction that was a birthday present from Emma. I like to fish the more weird or unknown places that can be a really fun experience.
I don't know if you know Matt but he is a really good guy and I am sure you'd have a fun day with him.

Cracking fish... Looking forward to the write up. I don't know Matt but he used to be active on the UK forum, partic the first few years I took up fishing and always seemed to offer sound advice to people, knew his stuff and posted up some nice flies. I still follow his blog but I don't think he's been on the UK forum for some time. The trouble with the Wild Trout auction and the Monnow auction is the are far to many temptations.... I didn't bid on any this year as I'd just paid for NZ flights and my wallet was a bit 'light' Hopefully next year....

Well done Pete ,lovely fish . On first sight , without seeing your estimation, I thought between12 and 15lb. I try never to get into debates about sizing a fish so I was pleased to see your estimate. Colin.

Well done Pete. I thought I had the timing cracked on monday on the Tamar when I arrived to a falling river and some fish in the book from the weekend. Not a dickie bird! And I went for a swim! Still beats work mind. Rob

Thank you everyone, it is funny sometimes when you fish but it just felt right as we came down the pool. Overcast but warm, river just dropping back. We had even just discussed where to land a fish if we got lucky and then just the gentlest of takes and the line slid from my hand. A feeling I will never tire of!
Colin, I usually have a weigh net with me but I was travelling back by train and didn't pack it so pleased you agree with the estimate.
Rob, sounds perfect. The Taw only came up a tiny bit I hear there is the odd fish around now. Sorry to hear about the dunking, I hope it was a spectacular stumble!
Matt, paid for flights for NZ, painful but still a nice feeling knowing what is ahead!

Not spectacular, but a proper dunking! My phone survived but taking no chances I have just ordered an aquapac for it!

Good call Rob. I never carry a phone but keep a camera inside my waders. Waded too deep when grayling fishing earlier in the year and it took a dunking. Thankfully I left it to dry and it is still going strong!

Must be season for it. Not duffers but Dunkers ! Wearing wellies took early bath(7.35) . Luckily got phone out asap. Writing this on it! To cap it all pulled hamstring trying to get suction sealed left welly off. Had to summon help so not even pride left in tact! Hilary not amused! Cut grass as penance. Will also watch Chiefs sober if I can stand the strain lol

Couldn't stand the tension after 15 minutes so went fishing in proper waders with water proof pocket for phone. 3 out of s grayling taking JP kebari fished dry ! Awesome! Put rods away very smartly with onset of donner & blitzen!
