I wasn't supposed to be out fishing today, but had to go to the supermarket for supplies then taking the dog for a walk along the river late afternoon, so popped into the Axe for an hour before shopping, on the water at 1pm exactly. Perfect conditions, 20C, overcast and completely still. Second cast a beautiful 14" trout, 3rd cast one of 10". Picked my way quickly up the lower end of the beat, ended up with 6 fish, including two more of 12"... All to a little CDC mayfly. Also had the hook pull out on two more decent sized fish. I'm terrible at time keeping when fishing and wanted to stick to the hour fishing, so set the timer on my mobile. Very pleased I called in, probably the best hour fishing I've had this season. It would have been nice to stay longer, but I reckon I had the best of it, the sun was just breaking through when I stopped, it's clear blue sky now, perfect for walking the dog along the river. All Sunday's should be like this, but perhaps with a bit more fishing

Starting to quite get into my quick hour on the way home from work... Haven't got out much the last 2 weeks, a quick and fairly average hour on Sunday.... Hungover after the rugby, drizzling and grey, one of those sessions where you arrive feeling like you won't catch anything..... Had two of about 7" and missed a few.
But turned it around this eve.... on the way home from work, only on the river for 1hr 15 mins and spent a good part fiddling around with my leader, but picked up two great fish of 13&14"... First one went seriously airborne and the second tried to bury itself into some major bankside vegetation, thought they could be stocked when I hooked them but I'd guess both wild as they were fin perfect; also picked up a couple of 7-8" and lost another decent sized one shortly after lifting into it.
Lots of sedges about and the fish were definitely keyed into them, all fish caught were to rises and they smashed the fly first drift... May take a half day leave tomorrow and have a few hours, felt like the rain had freshened up the river.

Good to hear and sounds like a nice session. Sedge was the pattern of choice yesterday although there were still plenty of mays coming off and we managed to rise a fish on one too.
