A fantastic day Pete, I really enjoyed it. A day of firsts for me...... ..... First time fishing up a river sharing a rod, a great way to fish.... Makes a really enjoyable change being able to chat and switch off a bit when not fishing. .... Two new stretches of river.... Both stunning, particularly liked the Bray.. ..... And a new rod to try..... Sage little one.... I had been wondering what to upgrade my vision 8' 4w to and was already tempted /interested in the little one.... A 1w was new to me and took a little while to get used to, but it is one sweet rod, a lovely way to fish drys..... It throws beautifully tight loops when you get it right.... Unfortunately not that often for me I think I know what I'll be replacing with now ...... but it will have to wait 18 months as too many other commitments for the foreseeable future Great fun

I noticed the other day that sage one's are on sale in the US, no doubt clearing stock for the arrival of the X range. I was tempted to pick up a 6w for NZ, but they don't get great reviews for in close with less line out, so I probably won't jump into buying one as I want it for sea trout in the UK as well... Not much call for throwing 40' plus casts on the Axe! Tis tempting though, they are down to $500

The Fox water was up and coloured this morning but I managed to find some fishable water for a short time before it started to colour up again. I had a really enjoyable 1/2 hour so so where the fish came on the feed. I really love fishing as a river is rising or just dropping as it can be really productive.

Looks like a couple of good days fishing well done guys.
Matt if we ever get out you can try my One 9ft 3#. They Ones get mixed reviews and I would advise anybody buying one to try before they buy. I'm very happy with mine however I wanted a true 4# with sufficient power for the chalk streams when the ranunculus is up. It fits the bill perfectly.

Hi Dave, the pictures with Matt were last season but I thought rather than adding a new thread I'd tack yesterdays on. I was fishing a smaller section of river and fished the Little One. I have really fallen for it and have enjoyed fishing it over winter and this season too. Cracking rod!

Pete I will not be tempted I have a lovely custom built MHX 7ft 3# which I have to add the finishing touches to, (re whipping due to not being happy with my first attempt last year). I nearly bought a Circa but I honestly can't see it being much better than the MHX which is a superb blank.

Hey Dave / Pete I drove up to near Kilkhamtpon yesterday, hope you didn't see the same weather Pete.... between Okehampton and Holsworthy I drove through a 10 minute hailstorm and the outside temp dropped for 8C to 3C... gotta admit I was glad I hadn't taken the day off and gone fishing Dave- definitely get out this season, it's lodged in my head.... for all that's worth😁 Usk and Otter? Preferably not the same day! I really liked the little one (I think it was the 2w Pete?).... no new rods for me this season😩 But plan on buying a shorter rod next winter ready for the start of next season... I'm already spending far too much time thinking about it and weighing up the options. Definitely something on the faster end of the scale, prob a 3w... maybe a 7'6" radian or X.... but there's so many to consider and nowhere that stocks them all to try... certainly in that length...

I did get some of that Matt but lucked out. River is big again and I have lost all my guiding days so far and reckon I'll lose Sat as well!
It was the 1 wt we fished and I have the 4wt too which is perfect for duo. If you are looking for a shorter rod have a look for the TXL-F by Sage too. It was replaced by the Little One but is a fine rod too and a great alrounder.

Very easy to take a dunking there, a couple of seasons back I managed it twice in the same day, that was in September and I hadn't taken one anywhere all season.

Was that the beat of the Inny where you park at the top of a steep track and walk down? A mate of mine said it's a really nice beat to fish, if a little narrow in places. I do like the WAP beats arounf Launceston, they have some really nice water to explore.

Fished the Taw this afternoon - Thursday is my day on my beat and didn't go last week so braved the weather and jumped in the car this afternoon. No way was I going to even attempt to wade - river was swollen and very fast. Fished for a couple of hours with a tungsten on the point and a wet on the dropper - packed up after losing two sets of flies on sunken branches!! Still, happy that I got out and wet a line.

It was meant to be though I drove down a road? & parked just over a steel bridge next to a mill needing some tlc. Lovely couple showed me where to fish and invited me to have tea with them . Sadly after scaring myself wading and a downpour I went on my way leaving in the opposite direction up a slightly easier road!
