I'm looking into putting together a trip for a group of anglers and am wondering where some decent places to fish are, in Europe.
I realise that Croatia, Czech republic etc are hot spots but have any forum members had any experience outside of the 'popular' fishing destinations, that might provide good fisahing with a decent price tag attached?
cheers

Wales, Scotland and Ireland, it depends on what you mean by good, rule of thumb the better the fishing the more it will cost, again rivers or lakes, do you want wilderness or home comforts and how big is the group.

The price has three elements.
The basic costs of food and accommodation where places like Bosnia and Slovenia are very good, but Scandinavia, Austria etc are high (and as Mo says, the high cost ones in paeticular will vary with the quality of the accommodation)
The cost of the fishing. Even in cheap countries the fishing can be expensive- top rivers in Bosnia and Slovenia can be 50-100euros per day and you can have anglers every 30 yards up and down the river, certainly in Bosnia, less so in Slovenia.
The cost of guides-varying dependent on base costs in the country. Our guide in Bosnia was a night hift worker in a factory some 20km away but still looked after us on the river from 9.30 am till 6.30 pm! However, the impact of that on a holiday is very dependent on guide to angler ratio ( between one ot one and one to ten!) and how many days guiding and ho wmany self guided. The right balance is very dependent on the experience of the anglers.
If you have a fit crowd and are after still water, the scourie Hotel in Sutherland has had good reports (but has recently changed hands) and the lochs of Shetland as an under your own steam hire a car project is also interesting.
Pricey and not Europe, Ascension Bay in Mexico, wading miles offshore for bonefish and baby tarpon is probably the high spot of my overseas trips. Sadly, with the exchange rate against us, this is now just over £2000 plus flights for a week- but it is winter sun and you don't miss the season back home.
It would be great to hear from others with wider experience than mine and love to hear from Boisker about NZ!.

Currently sat in Changi airport waiting to depart for Heathrow... I'll write something for ESF when I ge back..... mine was a holiday with some fishing, which is hard to work with the style of NZ rivers
One thing I can confirm having a few pints at Changi would push the budget up, $20 for a pint of Carlsberg!!
