Went to Kennick today. Lovely day when we arrived at 11-30 with a tricky easterly blowing. Lots of fish about but mainly along the West Bank and the top end oft the east bank. Met with Kim and soon christened the rod he lent me on a nice rainbow. I caught on mainly orange and a couple on black. Some of the local successful anglers caught on montanas . The fish were deeper than expected and while others saw a fair amount of fish rising I only saw one rise. Top end seems to be the place at the moment. Colin.

Good day at Kennick today . Half a dozen fish on small flies and floating line ,5 weight. Lots of other incidents . Lovely to catch a few on the Rusty Blue, one of my dads old patterns we used up there 50 years ago. Happy days. Colin.

It's no secret as it's been published in a Courtney Williams Dictionary of flies. It's in there with a few others of my dads dressings. Colin.

Glad you had a good day Colin. Was thinking of going next week, with small flies and my 5 weight. What is the level like, not too much mud I hope? Terry

Bloody William on the point and a Rusty Blue or Nice's Favourite on the dropper was all we needed back then. On "dog days" we would leave our kingfisher lines undressed and fish a Black and Peacock Spider down deep particularly effective in the "narrows" at Kennick. Water is still down and it is muddy and sticky in places. This rain could change all that. Tactically I would not fish blind with small natural type flies. Go looking for the fish and target any movement. There were some very small rises I thought were small browns but weren't. Another day could be completely different. Colin

A black and peacock spider with lead underbody was one of my dads favourites, and when no one was looking a slow sink line with a viva or jersey herd!
