It was tricky for sight fishing yesterday... Only half caught were sighted fish, the light in the morning and early eve was really flat and blindingly bright in afternoon- to the extent that nothing was out in the open. Later in the eve without Polaroids the water was like a mirror in places, with Polaroids you could just about see into it but not great. I'll head out over again in a few weeks and see if I can catch better light.... Still some nice fish so can't complain

It's strange. Usually a blank day is cause for concern, tinged with sadness ! A very windy and bright day on the Dorset Frome may not have helped . And then, a bbq in front of the fishing hut, with all the food at less than 1/2 price, one glass of wine and its 3.30. pm and just time to fish up to the top boundary. Back to the car for a quick "Kelly kettle coffee. The icing on today's cake is April 2017 will see me joining the Little syndicate with chalk stream "on the fly" whenever I chose! Oh joy! Particularly as I commenced phased retirement on 23/10 cutting to 3x5 hour shifts a week! So a blank day becomes a celebration!

On the Tone Clocks gone back-leaves fallen-river unseasonably low. I am filled with wonder at our preferred activity. Only the occasional brownie during the season, now is the time for grayling nymphing . Two today , one of decent size! Quickly returned. Several grayling as well. I learnt today that I need to be quieter near and in the water. Today's fishing dedicated to the memory of Sonia M

Spent the afternoon on the North stream today, a Frome carrier... annoyingly when I arrived there the wind was far stronger than when I left east Devon and far stronger than forecast. So tricky casting into what is a fairly narrow stream and even narrower channels between the beds on ranunculus. Not much surface activity with spinners hiding in the grasses- Picked up a few and left just as it felt as though the wind was easing, perhaps I should have stayed but after a weekend of pretty much living in the pub I went home to relax and eat a decent meal Still, a pretty special place to spend an afternoon-
