Managed a couple of hours on the Taw down stream from the CFFc waters. Fished from 2 til 4, just after the lunchtime showers. There wasn't a lot rising and saw 5 or 6 mays come down with no interest from the fish. Did manage one on a dry but the rest came to a flash back pheasant tail nymph.

Hello Pete. I fished up there on the 11th (I'm the country member from Yeovil) and only got a handfull of tiddlers, very few risers and most of them very spooky. I still enjoyed it mind, I should go up there more often (first visit since 1995!).
The river looked very clean with lots of lose gravel lying about, did it get a flash flood from the thunderstorms the week before?

Hi Andy,
I'd fished there on 31/5 and the river had seen a lot of water and was still up and coloured with only a 1ft of visibility. I took my daughter down and we managed to video some of it. I was lucky there were some mays coming off and I popped on a mayfly klink and threw it into the slacker water on the edges and had a really good time. Fly was big enough to pull fish up and just a bit too big for some of the smaller fellas!
I think you might be right as we did get some heavy dumps of localised rain in between your and my visits.

I am off for a couple of weeks tomorrow so while my wife and daughter were packing their gear I grabbed 4 t shirts a couple of pairs of shorts, a pair of flips flops and an 8wt rod line and reel threw them in a case and quietly sloped off to the Taw for a couple of hours. I think it might be the same stretch you fished Andy and I started just down stream of the bridge where there is a really tasty corner with a small brook also running into it. I didn't touch a thing and carried on for a bit with nothing happening. I was just short of the bridge when a few mays came off. I changed my dry and put on a 14 may pattern I had tied. There was a tree across the river and a dip just behind it. I threw a cast in and had a 7incher hit me and then a 5 and my best of the day (10 incher) come out. I had a few more but it wasn't really hectic fishing and I was pulling fish out of less likely areas than I was expecting. The water was low and clear and even my 2 wt was spooking fish as it landed on the water. Good fun tho!
