Just heard that SWLT will not be renewing the lease at Drift in Cornwall next year. In the couple of times I've fished Kennick this year I've spoken to local season ticket holders and they have all said that the 2017 season has been their worst in terms of fish caught. They seemed to think that the stocking has not been what was promised. What with Wimbleball now not stocked I guess this is a sign of the times.

Sw lakes tried something different last season during the summer at Kennick and just stocked Browns. The idea was to increase the catches during the warmer weather, the fish were stocked but never really came out. There were some great catches of rainbows during the early season up until mid June then again from September onwards. Season opens early this year on 17th February. Also if you haven’t heard Wimbleball will be operating this year under a new lease to Mark Underhill of Rainbow Valley Trout Farm. Mark plans to have a fleet of 10 boats with a good stock of fish, many in the 3-6lb range. For more info Mark is contactable on 07814324925 or wimbleballflyfishery@aol.co.uk

Further to my email back in February, Kennick Fly Fishers Association had 8 boats on Wimbleball last Sunday. Having had a fry up at the George at Brompton Regis on the way which was excellent value we were then soon getting our gear ready and luckily the weather was sunny with light winds. We had a great day, 16 catching 70 fish, average weight was 2.75lbs with the best fish of the day at 4lbs 8oz and 2 others over 4lbs. The fish were in fantastic condition, full fins and tails and didn’t they fight. The fish were caught in all areas of the lake, from Ruggs, Cow Moor and the Upton Arm, mostly on floating line and nymphs. Wimbleball is certainly back and great value, Mark is doing a great job to get the fishery back to what it used to be like 20 years ago. We went up there on Friday. It was excellent fishing. As John says the fish are a good average 2.75lb size and they really go well. Many fish took the line down to the backing. Floating line and nymphs were taking the fish ,very often casting them in front of cruising fish. We travelled up via Dulverton and had coffee and bacon rolls in a cafe in the Main Street , beautiful. Thoroughly recommend the stop as well as the fishing. Colin.
