Toby and I saw our first Hawthorn flies of the season last Thurs, anyone else seen any yet?

If I recall the "prime time" for the hawthorn is towards the end of the month. What you need is a windy day to blow them on the river. One of my most memorable days with these critters was when I fished in effectively a gale but the brownies were hitting the hawthorns with a vengeance. Problem was getting a fly on the surface!! Great fun when it happens. most of the white blossom you see at the moment is blackthorn.

I was on the river yesterday for a couple of hours and saw a few.
Not loads but hopfully by the end of next week they will start proper.
Then its time to hit Colliford ;D
