A few black gnats about now, so it won't be long before they build up. That should get them going!

Up at Exton on Saturday ,lots of black gnat about, only tiddlers rising. Had a nice fish on the Sid at 7.45pm this evening on a Blue Quill. Weather looks bad for the weekend.

Quite a few rising on the Otter at Tipton tea time yesterday. Very encouraged by this until the "Black Death" flew in.

You are doing well spotting them on the Otter this season Colin... or i’m just being very unlucky... I have spotted the sum total of 2, or maybe 3, rises in about 10 hrs on the Otter this season

You are doing well spotting them on the Otter this season Colin... or i’m just being very unlucky... I have spotted the sum total of 2, or maybe 3, rises in about 10 hrs on the Otter this season I was down by Otterton mill on Sat afternoon and there were a good 'bunch' rising freely, and for quite some time, just upstream of the bridge, it looked like they were going for midges as there were no other obvious flies around. Was lovely to watch.

Don't know if anyone else was caught out by the rise in their rivers yesterday?
I thought we'd go away with it until about 2pm or so on the Taw then it rose pretty quickly and coloured up. There was much moving around and scrambling down banks to find somewhere unaffected!
Hopefully we'll hear of some more salmon soon too.

I drove over the Exe yesterday afternoon and it had really come up, very dirty. Shame really, as it was just dropping nicely for Trout! It's already dropped right back now, though, looking at the gauges.

Tone rose similarly! Despite my app showing 4 fish session 1.45.-4.45 not a tickle. Wind also making T casting difficult!

First time out on the river this evening for an hour . Eight wild browns on an old fashioned fly ,the iron blue infallible . Only one cormorant tonight.

Great stuff Billyfish. I'm glad I'm not the only one using that lovely fly. Mind you this year on the Duchy I have renamed it the fallible.

Fantastic rise on the Sid this evening . From Lawn Vista bridge for the couple of hundred yards up to Sid Park bridge every pool had a good number of rising fish. Colin.

Hawthorn flies have been about for a few weeks at Sutton Bingham. Probably why small black flies have been working so well.

I picked up this little fella on a hawthorn fly over on the Piddle this morning... Piddle was looking stunning in the bright sun, absolutely perfect little river and challenging to fish...

I saw my first yellow may yesterday. Even though I've not ever seen trout take them on the Taw it felt as though things might be a little more on schedule as they tend to hatch just before the danicas get going.
