Well,
what a season that wasn't! I managed to get out about 5 or 6 times and blanked for pretty much all of them.
I'm hoping that next season is much better for me.
I'm also looking forward to some winter grayling fishing, so hopefully i'll be able to salvage some pride. Although, this won'ty be until after Christmas as i'm currently sitting here recovering from a total hip replacement, last week (so a bit sore and bruised).
I'm also planning on a couple of wild camping trips to Dartmoor next year so that I can really get stuck into tryiong to catch those wily moorland brownies (the new hip should, at last, allow me to walk more that a couple of kms, so some trips right off the beaten tracks will be on the cards)
Anyway, I hope you all had a much better season than I did and good luck for whatever you plan for the winter.

Hope the hip settles down Pusser and Grayling aside lets hope next season will be much better. After a fairly bad season on my beloved duchy we had a belated annual trip to Assynt in Sutherland to be confronted with gale force winds and horizontal rain. Had a few fish but nothing like the norm. Was planning a trip to Kennick this week but have damaged a tendon in my wrist mending a fence thanks to storm Callum so to hell with this season I say.

You may may have watched these already pusser but they certainly got me thinking that I must get up the East Dart next season. ( And spend more time on the Okement ). Conditions permitting of course.

Thanks for posting links to my videos. Those two days were amazing and I plan on doing a couple more. I’ll certainly be exploring the West Dart with more wild camping

Nice, good work west country angler.
Pusser, I hope the hip is well on the mend now and you'll be rearing to go come March.
I already feel like I'm ready to start counting the days down again until I'm back on the river searching for trout. As ever, I can't wait!

Great to hear Pusser. I expect to hear stories of you rock hopping on the streams of Dartmoor real soon!
It's been fun fishing for grayling and have just finished tying up a bunch of flies as I have lost a few nd given some away too.
It is often this time of year I imagine a warm summer day and I end up tying a few dries just to get me in the mood.

Thank you Westcountry angler. I’ve walked and camped that area and absolutely love it. But haven’t ever fished the dart. I tried the Okement a few years ago when I was living at Sourton Down, nr Okehampton but didn’t have much luck fish wise. However, I Enjoyed myself anyway; I just love being on the moor. Moved to Barnstaple now so starting to explore Exmoor more, but there is nothing like Dartmoor, I just love it and can’t wait to fish it again one day. Keep posting and tight line for this season Charlie

Welcome CJW Where on the Okement did you try? I've had some good fishing on both the East and West over the years but rarely hear of others fishing it. As you're now in North Devon now have you looked at the Dulverton club? They have some lovely water by the look of it and only £35 for the season. Some members on here should have more info but looking at their Facebook page it seems like a nice active club.

Thank you halfstoned. Me and my father tried from the bridge at Betty Cottles inn, at gratton cross and worked out way up stream to the just above the bypass bridge; heading towards meldon.
I have considered fishing meldon but never go iround to it and despite sitting and watching for some time on numerous occasions I have never seen a fish rise in the reservoir.
Thank you for the advice about Dulverton club, I’ll have to enquire. Cheers

Ah, I think you picked the hardest spot ( I've only fished that area twice). More successful for me has been the west Okement river above Meldon up onto the moor and the East Okement above the fly over. I have caught some trout in Meldon but it's not as much fun as the rivers IMO.
