Had a day at Wimbleball yesterday. Our little group met in Dulverton for breakfast at the Farm Shop (just over the bridge on the right) and can thoroughly recommend it. Because of a road closure it was difficult to get to the lake but we got there in the end. Fishing was tricky in a cold blustery wind with occasional showers but it was well worth the effort once you found the fish. The fish are in great condition and fight really well . We all had our limits with the fish averaging above 2.5 lb. Montana was the favoured fly fished off a floating or intermediate line. This fishery is well worth a visit and Mark is doing a great job with his stocking policy. Be wary about the road closure if you travel via Dulverton. Colin.

Hi Colin, Yes, fully endorse what Mark is doing up there, amazing fishing and don’t the fish fight! The stock in the lake is incredible and they are catching from the Upton Arm right down to the bridge. Its going to be a popular place this year I think. Scierra Pairs and Anglers World events are scheduled during the year too. John

We went to Wimbleball last Friday and had another excellent days fishing. I don’t know what Mark feeds them on but don’t they go. All caught on floating line and smallish flies . The bigger Montana’s we used to good effect last week didn’t catch. Smaller Montana or size 14 Daiwl Bach worked well . If you like pulling boobies across the top that worked. We watched a local on a c&r ticket catch over a dozen fish , not my cup of tea but each to their own. It was great to see his fish chasing and then engulfing a fly on the surface. Colin.

Fished Wimbleball for the first time a few weeks ago and headed up towards Upton Arm, some decent water flanked with thick overgrowth where I was hoping to pick up a hungry brownie or two. There was not much surface action and ended up going from an intermediate line to a sinking. The Woolybuggers did the trick, both black and olive. Ended up with a good few rainbows which were much enjoyed by friends and family. Enjoyed the day and pleasantly surprised with the quality and health of the stocked fish. I usually prefer rivers given the choice. Don’t see anywhere here to attach a photo.
