Yesterday afternoon I had occasion to visit that most dreary of Devonshire towns - Tiverton (sorry Tivertononians ). Afterwards I felt the need to return to Zummerset so I sped upriver to Dulverton. There I entered one of the last remaining proper tackle shops, L. Nicholsons, to enquire as to which of the DAA beats were free. The answer was... all of them, take your pick! Despite fishing around Dulveton for twenty years I've somehow never quite got around to fishing the Haddeo so I thought I may as well put that right. By now it was 4pm, dark and the blustery west wind was carrying some rain but the wind was upstream A very few mayfly were coming but the trout were ignoring them in favour of sipping in summit small. Only having an hour to spare I couldn't be bothered with all the niceties of matching the hatch so I gave them a mayfly anyway The result was four, one too small to mention really, three between 10" and 12" and an absolute belter (a pound?!?!?!?) missed. There was a 2lb'er caught up here last week. It does seem to me that the smaller an Exmoor stream is the bigger the fish it produces, it may only be an optical illusion though... A bit dull weather wise to do the stream justice with a photo. Andy

Looks like a nice stretch that Andy and a reasonable level of water for this time of year. I am going to check out the River Bovey to see if the Mayfly are coming off on Saturday. Nice to see you got a couple of nice fish haven't had a pounder out of the river for a while.
Thanks for sharing.
Sandy.

Nice shots Andy. I keep meaning to go up there myself. A mate has some photos of some seriously nice grayling he has caught up there.
