At the weekend I was fishing a riffle on the River Exe. The water turns across the river from my bank to the opposite one. I was fishing from my bank across and down. managed to get 13 takes, but only one of them stuck until I landed it. Normally when riffle fishing I manage to pick up a number of "twitterer" trout (those just a few inches long) but this time a lost a good brownie and an even better rainbow. The fish held for just a few seconds - some just a couple and some a bit longer. I changed the rig from a New Zealand type to point and dropper flies. Following an article in Trout and Salmon by Mike Weaver. But it made little difference. What was I doing wrong - any advice welcome

Went yesterday - managed to hook and land 8 including catching my first ever dropper and point double - lost the point rainbow and dropped the dropper rainbow back into the river but I did have two good fish on at the same time. Also dropped an even bigger rainbow..... still it saved me releasing them...... but not with the care that I like to take when they go back.
Landed 4 brownies and 4 rainbows.
