At last the rains have come on Dartmoor but maybe a little too much. The gauge at Dunnabridge showed a rise of one and a half meters on the west dart overnight. We mustn’t complain however and true to form this spate will drop pretty quickly. Unless we have another deluge that is. Could be dusting of the rods soon hopefully.

Last week's floods must have been something else. I was on the Blackbrook and W Dart yesterday and the banks have been really hammered. Some new sections have eroded and fallen in, and the river bed has been seriously scoured. A lot of the weed from the middle river has disappeared, but so have the fish unfortunately, despite a good sedge hatch in the afternoon... Might give it one more go on the East Dart before the end of the month. If anyone comes across a metal flask on the Blackbrook, please let me know. Must have jumped out of my rucksack side pocket as I was slithering and falling in and out of the river!
