Not sure if this is quite appropriate but there is an article in the recent "Classic Angling" magazine talking about the demise of roach on the Taw. Apparently in the late 70s Barnstaple AC had a Coarse Cup and winners always had fish in excess of 2lbs. Specimens over 3lbs have been captured with the Dobbs pool being a popular specimen location point. The author questions what happened to all these fish for apparently there appears to be none around now. Can anyone shed light on this?

It is a great article which I enjoyed. But can't add anything to your quest

The late Jerry Mosdale was a great Taw Roach fisher. many of his specimins were taken on the intertidal stretches below Bishop's Tawton (between Newbridge and the Iron bridge)
The Taw used to hold good roach and some very good dace - the dace are definitely still there and so are the roach - although noone fishes for them these days.
