Hi I have lurked for a few years on this board but don’t think I’ve posted ! Have picked up all kinds of tips along the way and have enjoyed but not commented on Chris,s videos to my shame lol So far although there are no bad days on the river it’s been pretty dire haven’t seen a fish rising !! I will persevere and if I can get a hall pass will try a few evenings. Hope you all have a better season going forward G Welcome aboard Geecee, just fire any questions you might have! Where are you fishing?

Is anybody getting out in these conditions? Have you all switched to evening fishing already? Oh for a nice mild cloudy May day with a bit of drizzle, anyone remember those? Dulverton. I have fished a few times but as yet no fish. Casting is going ok, however keeping the line in touch with the fly is where I need to focus. I have had plenty of fly takes but have been too slow to strike and hampered by the slack line. This area is my focus at the moment total nightmare lol

I'm glad to hear fishing still has that effect on you!

Keep on keeping on! I've followed the forum on and off for the last 5 or 6 years. It's been a great resource as a new fly fisher learning the trade alone. Along with the fly culture podcast and Chris matthews YouTube channel. I'm a member of cffc, lower teing and exeter and District and based in exeter. After listening to Pete's latest podcast I've got myself some size 24s and will be targeting the grayling on the lower creedy Cheers Oliver

Nice one, let us know how you get on. If you want Grayling reasonably local, fish the Exe through Tiverton, which is free and can be full of fish. Wants a bit of water at the moment, though.

I kept missing rises on the creedy then realised I was fishing at grayling thinking trout. Popped on a small sedge and had a 10 inch fish and missed a few more.

Good to hear Oliver and welcome!
How strange has this season been so far? The easterly and north easterly winds, the high water, low water and weird hatches too.
Yesterday, I saw mayfly on the water (not all that unusual at this time of year) but had a cold wind that was knocking leaves off of the trees and I realised the kingfishers I regularly see on the river have been extremely rare and then the rain. It almost felt autumnal!

It’s quite weird, I fished the Taw yesterday and didn’t see much in the way of hatches but it was blowing a gale lol today I fished the Yeo and saw sedges, small olives and a couple of yellow mays but no rising fish, but it was hammering down autumn weather or all the seasons in a month

I fished the Yeo Sunday 6-8pm found one pool with some shy sippers which I failed to tempt but the odd fish in the faster water took pity on me. River pretty low atm so hopefully this rain will put a bit of life back in it.

Yes, gets very hard at these sort of levels. Catch one, miss one or prick one and that's it for the whole pool! Those shy sippers can be buggers,

The wind was the biggest obstacle to over come last night. I'd had a look during the day but decided to come back in the evening and although it was still gusting when it let up a few trout started to rise.
