Yesterday was the first go on the Moor for me this season Terry. Very low water and slime/weed made it a challenge, but I hooked 5 smallish fish of which 3 made it to the net. Steady olive hatch in the morning giving way to caddis later (quite a few of them egg laying in faster streamy sections). Loads of dragonflies and damsels about. How about you?

Well done John that’s a result considering the current conditions. I’ve not ventured out much as yet as the heat and a chest infection has put paid to any moorland adventures. Hoping for some rain this weekend so maybe a change is coming.

Gave it another go this weekend. Rivers rock bottom low, Blackbrook and W Dart very slimy, E Dart in better shape. Altogether I had 10 brownies to dries from a number of locations; best of about 12 inches on my smallest F-fly as recommended by James, the angling development officer who I bumped into yesterday. Had six from the middle East Dart today, all to a dry ginger hopper. Goodness knows what they think it represents, but they love it. It's not the first time I've done well with that pattern on this particular stream. Suffice to say, the moor really needs some rain now.

Amazing what a drop of rain will do. An afternoon on the west dart and at last a few fish to hand, the best at 10”. Not that many actually rising but certainly did to my dry flies. More rain in the forecast so I think we have turned a corner on this strange season
