Arrived to a cloudy day with a bit of a downstream breeze causing problems at times. As I tucked under the bridge and started to fish my normal route I felt like someone had been through it already as I wasnt seeing any fish apart from some spooky ones and the give away was the fresh footprints and trodden grass. Ah well I decided to continue up and fish past the cottage right up to the top boundary and as I got closer to the house I started to get some rises to my dry fly and was soon landing a few . As I passed the house section and above sport picked up and was much more consistent with eager Brownies hitting the fly at regular intervals . I then walked all the way back to the West Dart where I managed to raise a few more to the fly ending up with 14 in total plus the inevitable missed takes and a few losses. the river was lower and clearer than my recent visits .

What time were you there Rich? I fished the bottom section front 10 till 1.30, grabbed a quick bit of lunch then tried above the bridge but it was completely dead, barely a fish to be seen so I never made it as far as the house. I was back at the car by three and left about 20 past? Did you fish the evening shift? I did think about walking back down to try the Dart but I was knackered and decided to leave that for another day.

Pretty amazing place👍

Chris, we must have missed each other by a couple of hours. I fished up the lower cherry from the west dart mid afternoon. Certainly very clear and fish very spooky with a stiff down stream wind. In other words situation normal. Did you take any footage while you were there. As you say “I’ll catch you next time”

Bugger Terry, you must have followed me up river by about an hour, no wonder the fish were spooky. It would have been good to finally meet up. To think on another day three fisherman could have met up for a proper chin wag and yet somehow we all managed to miss each other? I did get some lovely footage of the place, happily setting down to a bit of editing now (incredibly I have the week off). I wish I lived closer, there is so much up there to explore, the West Dart looked stunning in the morning sunshine,I almost decided to fish up past Prince Hall and try the blackbrook. Next time.

Do you know I think we really did just miss each other I arrived just after 12 at the Cherry brook and must have actually fished that bit up to house BEFORE you !! And I was obviously out of sight past the house when you came through behind me ! Then I walked all the way down to the west Dart must have been about 17.00 when I was down the bottom where Dart meets Cherry fished along the dart till about 18.30 then the last knockings back up Cherrybrook to car.

It does appear that there are fishermen walking about all over the Moor but never meeting! The fact that we both found the stretch above the bridge really quiet makes you wonder if someone else fished it in the morning? The car park was pretty full when I got back for lunch? How do you find the evening fishing in June/July when the days are longer? It looks like I could get there in half the time if I leave from work (considering a season ticket for next year).

The evenings can be well worth fishing and often when you will find the bigger average coming out to feed I find. Can often watch and wait for risers in certain areas and then working your way carefully to present a fly to them . It is a shame really for your first visit as that bit from the bridge up to house I find is normally fantastic and has some of my favourite runs and little pools . You will have to get back on it next may/june!
