Well managed to get out for a morning session to end the river season for me and I went to my favourite stretch of the Cherrybrook to start with . River was a up a bit and had a good flow after recent and overnight rains . I took 7 small Browns in the first 1 hr or so all bar 2 were on the dry fly a small black terrestrial pattern as I walked back down stretch I had just fished through I saw another angler starting to fish the same bit so went and told him I had already done the stretch . He thanked me and said he wondered why he hadnt had a sign of a trout yet! I decided to drop down to the start of the Cherry brook where it meets the West Dart and then fish it back up to the car . By this time a lot of sedges were about so I changed to a dry sedge pattern size 14 and started working my way back up the river. The dry was steadily raising fish up with some impressive smash takes missing a few as you do but increasing the tally landed nicely as I went along. Downstream wind was at times a pain for presentation but was not constant so just had to be patient at times. Best fish of the trip smashed the fly and gave a pretty impressive scrap on my 7ft 3wt in a small little run off from a pool and was a nice solid 11inch Brown . Ended up with 18 all bar 2 on the dry so a nice way to end the river season on one of my favourite waters. Now the long wait for next year! Rich

Excellent Rich, I took today off and drove up to the Culm. Unfortunately, although the gauge said it hadn't risen too much, it was roaring through. Nothing for it, but to drive back to Crediton, I stopped to look at the Creedy, but this was cloudy so on to the Taw. Managed about 8 or 9, I think, best of 11". Half on nymph and half on dry fly, a nice way to finish, and at least the long drive coincided with listening to Europe going up 4-0 in the Ryder cup.

Nice one, a long wait now for next season to start! I will have a few trips into Wales and chase some of the Wild Browns in a few remote Lyns as the season for those ends on the 17th Oct .

Nice one, mate. Sounds like a good day. Hoping to get out somewhere tomorrow. Hope you managed to get out on a river today. I went to somewhere I thought would be fine level wise, and it was fine level wise, but really dirty, and I didn't fancy fishing a streamer ( I never do ), so came home and went after Chub locally, which was fairly productive. So that's it for the Trout this year!
