Well, it's been a bit challenging from a fishing perspective so far. I've managed to get a few sessions for salmon and just one afternoon on a small stream with a friend. It was pretty quiet but we found a ew fish on a duo.
Anyone else got lucky?

Nope Pete. Doesn't look good for a while yet, might take up Carping at this rate! Anything doing on the Salmon front?

Was hoping to get out before now, but looks like it will be next week now. Conditions will probably be terrible but plenty of time left in the season yet!

Your right rich there is plenty of time (just as well) yet but it’s starting to be a bit of a pain. I’m not desperate to get out but it won’t be long before I just have to go regardless. Might consider Fernworthy next week.

Alas, no, I was hoping to make use of the Easter weekend, but Storm Nelson put paid to that. The Yeo was up past the 2 meter "alert" level on Thursday afternoon!

I had a few hours playing with a new streamer box on the Axe…. Had a few follows and one tug, but no hooks ups😏

Good to hear at least you gave it a try Boisker. I’m definitely going to have a more serious go at using streamers this season. As I spent years lure stripping in my early Stillwater days it should be second nature. Do you use specialised gear or can I get away with normal river stuff?

No need for specialised gear, and I guess set up is whatever suits you best. I haven’t really settled on favourite set ups for a given situation yet, I haven’t fished streamers enough to get that level of experience.. On the Axe I was fishing jig streamers on a ‘euro/mono’ set up, approx 25’ of maxima 20lb, 2’ of red / black sighter (10lb) and 6lb tippet. Fly line stayed on the reel. This was on a 9’6” 3w rod. I’ve also fished streamers with a regular rod/line combo, either a 4w or 6w line and 9’ leader. I have got a fast sink, sink tip line for streamers, which I haven’t used much, but the intention for that was to fish more US style, with just 3-4’ of leader/tippet. But the rivers I generally fish seem a bit small for this set up, it would be great on the Usk. I’ve got both weighted and unweighted streamers…
