Hello All, my son, a student, and I are relatively new to the area and would love to get some clarity on fly-fishing the River Sid if possible. A couple of years ago we were told by a local Sidmouth fly fisherman that the stretch below the Blue Ball Inn and along the footpath was "free" which we have now subsequently fished several times without incident. Yesterday my son was approached by a gentleman, also a local fly fisherman, on the lower portion on this stretch and told that while he couldn't fish in that particular spot, he was able to fish in the "Byes" further down. Obviously he was delighted at this news and promptly decided to move. No sooner had he started, he was then approached by someone else who said that he needed to stop fishing immediately or risk a fine and having all his gear and car confiscated! Obviously he immediately stopped fishing and returned home extremely disappointed. He then emailed the Sidvale association for clarity who promptly replied say that while they do not allow fishing on their particular section, that they were unsure of the fishing rights along the other various stretches. My attempts to get clarity from the Environment agency have so far been unsuccessful hence I am hoping that someone here may be able to provide us with the real facts. Many thanks in advance
