The last day to fish has been 30/09 for these rivers and streams but we have seen the season widen out in recent times. Some of the rezzies now go to 14th October.
There was a report in one of the magazines recently that the authorities on some of these waters were experimenting with a season extention,
Anyone know more about these experiments cause I spoke to two ticket sellers for these rivers recently and they didn't seem to know?

Loopy, The only season extensions that I am aware of in the southwest are the extensions to the salmon season until 14th Oct (barbless fly only, 100% C&R) on the rivers Exe, Dart and Torridge. The brown trout season ends on reservoirs in the southwest region on the 12th Oct. For some reason the brown trout season in Wessex stillwaters ends on the 14th Oct. but in Wessex rivers on the 15th Oct. When I started out years ago there was a vertical line drawn on the map at Wellington and everything west of that line in the Wessex region had the southwest seasons Andy

The salmon only season extension is also available on the Teign. To participate on all SW rivers you would need a special permit which is issued with details of conditions of use and a special return form. These are usually issued by club secretaries and if you own your own fishery you would need to contact the EA direct. I do not think it would be possible for day ticket anglers to participate. Too late for this season I regret, but although a few fish were caught, conditions were nor very favorable. Hope that is clear. Luap

Have you fished any of the rivers during the salmon extensions (this year or in previous years)? What sort of condition are the fish in, are there any silver fish being caught. I fish on the top of the Exe system (Barle) and all the fish I've caught or seen caught up there in October have been coloured. I can't really see the point in the extra two weeks up where I fish and I wonder if anything worthwhile is being caught elsewhere.

I fish further down the river from BarleBlanker and didn't even fish. So little water in the Exe wasn't worth it.

The Salmon season runs late on the Plym if I remember rightly I think it finishes in Mid December. A friend of mine is going to try his luck this weekend 27th of November.
The River always produces some nice back end fish which usually have a good chance of being fresh run. Most seem to be taken on flying condoms but I'm a fly only man so its hard getting action with so much water at present.
Might be able to get an update on how he got on next week.
Sandy.
