Hi all,
It's been a while since i last posted.
I have a question for you Devonites.
Im planning a weeks visit to fish the rivers around Devon and the (can i say the C word on here) Cornwall borders. If you guys had to base yourself somewhere which was central to as many rivers as possible where would that be? Also decent access to wild lake fishing would be good in case the rivers are in flood.
Any info would be appreciated.
Mark

Hi Starsky,
Basing yourself on the Cornwall border isn't a bad bet. It isn't too far to go up the A30 and fish Dartmoor and there is some great fishing on some of the tribs that flow into the Tamar that are available on the Westcountry Angling Passport or day tickets on the Arundell waters. If you are heading to Dartmoor you might also want to pop your head in to the Teign as you will be passing over it which is a beautiful spot. For the stillwater stuff you have Colliford just inside Cornwall which is one of my most favourite stillwater destinations and Roadford which is the Devon side of the border. I haven't fished Roadford this year but the reports I have heard have been pretty good this year. You also have Fernworthy another stillwater inside of Dartmoor and free fishing at Meldon and Avon dam if you fancy it. These are all brown trout lakes but if you fancy some rainbow action then Kennick (stunning) and Siblyback (just in Cornwall) fit the bill.

p.s seen the Specials yet?

Hi Pete,
I certainly have seen The Specials play and they were the nuts. I know im getting old(or i was drunk) and it's probably the reason i have forgot but when have we discussed my liking for Ska and Reggae with you?. Sorry for my crap memory.
Thanks for the info much appreciated. I have fished the Avon Dam before and had a bit of a run in with the cattle up there. Nice spot though. We are planning to visit the last week of April next year. Plenty of time to plan our assault on the Devonshire trout. Cheers Mark

Pete, If you can't manage to get a ticket i would recommend you see Neville Staple with his band as an alternative. Same songs smaller venues, great performer. Im really looking forward to this trip. I just hope the weather gods are kind. We have a plan B destination in case the SW is getting caned by an Atlantic weather system. I hope it doesn't come to that though. Thanks for the links. Mark

I hope plan B is Montana!
I think you will have plenty of options here if the weather doesn't play ball.
NS hasn't been down here but I do keep an eye out. Would also like to see Roddys Skabillys too.

I would love to put all my eggs in one basket as we really need to book a cottage in advance. I wish plan B was Montana as i would be praying for rain!. Maybe we should just go for it and hope for the best. At least we will have decent lake fishing close by. I have never seen Roddy's band before but have heard good things. Mark

I would say base yourself on the Exe and travel to the others.
Don't forget North Devon with the Torridge and Taw

Thanks for that Flyboxfan,
I have been looking at Launceston as a base as it sits on the A30 and is central to alot of rivers and some stillwaters. So much water so little time..
