With the trout season just round the corner could some of you wise old sages advise me as to which of the rivers are perceived as early ones?

Well I'm not wise, old or sage just middle aged and confused! My take on it is that there are no early rivers just early weather I always leave my choice of water until the last minute. Low clear water and mild weather fish anywhere you fancy. If the rivers are high and dirty head for the small tribs or upstream, right up onto the moors even. The small streams up on the moors will warm up quickly on a sunny day and this gets both the insects and the trout going. Avoid streams that run in deep valleys and don't catch the sun, most of the Barle is useless until May because it never sees the sun but the upper moorland reaches fish ok early. Nothing very original in that I know but that's what I do. Someone will now name a stream where they get 2lb'ers every March! Andy
