Couple of evening hours on Venford for me. Just wish I had the day off . But will warm the bell around four to give me about two hours on the water. Sandy.

I'm limited. It has to be left handed casting as my shoulder is far from healed. I tried casting right handed in the field next door today; I could once and twice but the third time.......
The same reason limits me to very gentle wading. I'd love to go over to the CFFC bit of the Taw and send messages downstream to Pete but that is too far to drive one handed.
The Culm is too demanding- deep wading and a right handers river. same for the Dulverton waters on the Exe.
It could be the Creedy near Bernaville nursery where observing/ heckling bank clearers last weekend showed the stretch isa lot more interesting than summer visits had suggested.
It will most likely be the downstream beat at the Salmon Hutch on the Yeo- an old favorite suitable for an old man! It's where I started last year- committing the deadly sin of arriving on Mike Weaver's chosen water 10 mimnutes before he arrived!

It only struck me after I pressed the 'post reply' button that it fairly certain the majority of active members of the forum hibernate during the close season (or have some other nefarious activity which keeps them occupied) as a number have shuffled off the winters coils in the last few days and, as well as burnishing their equipment, have burst into eloquent print ( and in one case got out of their winter bath) in anticipation of the big day!

And what a glorious day it is too, just like last year I'm stuck in work all day and it looks like rain towards the weekend Somebody post up a picture of an opening day fish please! Andy

Not so silent from the Taw here!
A few of us hit the river y'day and enjoyed good coffee, company and a few laughs too.
We worked hard for the fish we caught and just a very light hatch of LDO's wasn't really enough to excite the fish so down and deep was the only way.
Special mention to Mojo who landed a 14incher which isn't a bad start to his season!

Saw a couple of late risers up the Reservoir but still Baltic when the sun goes down. Froze for a couple of hours Monday and Tuesday to no avail. Only worry is that water is as low as I've ever seen it - a bit worrying unless we get a very wet April. Sandy.

Just in from work and it was pretty hard going on the Taw. We scooted around to find fish and managed 5 but it took a bit of doing. Hardly any LDO's and not a rising fish in sight!

Second that gn. Cannot wait for Saturday and the force 8 gale and rain. I'll be fishing though whatever the weather.
Sandy,
Don't worry the level at Ventford is way down due to work going on around the dam. Walked around Fernworthy weekend before last and it's at top level.

Managed one of about 10" on Sunday afternoon from Venford. Hard work with only one other pull.
Saw two fish rise but very little fly life and the cold wind that came up soon finished the evening off.
Thinking of a wee go on a small stream into the Plym Estuary this evening been meaning to get there for some time ;D.
Fancy a little splash on the Lyner if the water clears a bit but more rain forecast already might end up at Avon over the weekend if Rivers are a washout.
Sandy.

Still pretty hard going on the Taw so far. We've managed a few this week but very little by way of hatches. I have probably seen a 20/25 large darks this week and 1 march brown.
I spoke to a friend in Cumbria tonight and he said today was the first day that it felt like spring up there and fish were feeding in a more meaningful way...

Good luck if you are out this weekend. Plenty of Large Darks, Grannom, March Browns and even a few rising fish today.
Hopefully the season is really getting going now and I can put away some of the nasty things that I have been resorting to of late!

I fished today and although the weather was great and there was a very small hatch i saw no fish rise. I had a few but all to nymphs. I did see a few stonefly around today and a brook lamprey.
