Hi all, well this was my first day out on the club waters. there was one other member at the parking site ( blue rav4) fishing down stream, so I started fishing upstream. This was not to be anti social just I have not been river fishing for sometime and wanted to get back into the hang of things after a break of over two years, Boy am I in need of some help . anyway I slowly made my way upstream testing the water level with my stick, and yes new boys need a wading stick in this water. I saw a few rises put from very small fish, I did have a tug at one point put the trout did not take the fly fully and got away. after 3 hours I had to leave the river and make for home, not long enough for sure. Points worth noting. smaller flies in fly book needed. make better food pack need some kind sole to take me under their wing and sort my fishing out. payment would be made in beer if said person knows a good pub in the area. make sure I have more time available on the river. all in all a nice time and I look forward to many more. michael

Hi Michael,
Thanks for the report...keep em coming!
The Taw is my favourite stretch of the club water and is handily only 6 mins from home.
What size flies were you using?
Generally, I start the season with size 14 dries and tend to scale them down to 16,18 and 20 as the season moves on and the fish are looking upward a bit more. Nymph wise it tends to be 14's and 16's most of the time.
The Taw has taken a bit of time to get going where I am down stream of the club waters but it is getting there now and fish have started to rise with a bit more confidence and more regulally the last few days.
Pete

Hi Pete.
sorry for not getting back sooner. I was dry fly fishing size 16 black and gold fly klinkhammer pattern. I started fishing around 3.30 and the river was just starting to show signs of life, I did not see any fish rise until much later and then only small 3 inch babys. I bet the rain as put some more colour into the water and lucky you to live only 6 mins away, it took me 1 1/2 hours to get to the spot. will be trying again next week. michael
